QUALITY INSPECTION AND STRUCTURAL UPGRADING OF THE MEIKO ELECTRONICS FACTORY BUILDING IN VIETNAM

13/12/2025 | 35 views

The Meiko Electronics printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing plant has been continuously expanding its production capacity to meet the steadily increasing market demand. Consequently, optimizing the use of existing space and ensuring the structural safety of the current factory buildings have become urgent requirements. The factory inspection project carried out by SVG Engineering is implemented with two key objectives. First, a comprehensive construction quality inspection process is conducted to thoroughly assess the load-bearing capacity, durability, and overall suitability of the existing structural system. Subsequently, scientific and sustainable solutions for vertical expansion and structural upgrading are proposed and implemented.

  •  Year of implementation: 2025

CONTENTS OF QUALITY INSPECTION AND STRUCTURAL UPGRADING OF THE MEIKO ELECTRONICS FACTORY BUILDING

1 - Current status of the factory building:

The main production workshop consists of 3 floors + 1 attic, constructed using reinforced concrete with column cross-sections of 700x700(mm), 700x500(mm), 300x600(mm), 300x700(mm), 250x500(mm). The cross-sections of the main beams are 600x800(mm), 400x800(mm)...; the cross-sections of the secondary beams are 300x700(mm), 300x600(mm)...

2- Purpose of factory inspection:

The purpose of the survey and inspection is to record defects, damage, and deviations appearing on the structural elements, the actual geometric parameters of the building structures and their components. It determines the conformity or deviation of these parameters with the current building design. It calculates the structural load-bearing capacity to determine the safety level of the building and whether it can withstand future additions to 5 floors plus a penthouse.

3- The factory inspection content includes:

No.

Integrity inspection

* Calculate the load-bearing capacity of the structure after renovation: Based on the design, existing data, and post-renovation design data.

a - Factory foundation and ground:

  • According to the design drawings, the building's foundation consists of reinforced concrete piles and a concrete subfloor.

  • Inspection revealed no signs of cracks or settlement between the foundation and the subfloor.

  • The subfloor showed no signs of sagging or settlement, or if any, it was negligible.

b - Reinforced concrete column:

  • Check the wall corners and columns; the error between the top and bottom of the column is within 10mm, which is very small compared to the height. The measured parameters pass the inspection.

c - Reinforced concrete roof :

  • Assess the stability of the floor and roof by checking the deflection of the floors using a laser distance meter. The measured parameters meet the requirements.

d - Covering structure:

  • The exterior brick wall, painted white, shows small cracks due to external environmental factors. At the time of inspection, no cracks or subsidence were observed on the wall surface.

e - Corrugated iron roof:

  • Color-coated galvanized steel roofing sheets for heat insulation.

4- Structural load-bearing capacity calculation for the renovated factory building (5 floors + 1 penthouse)

  • Based on the design documents for the renovation (5 floors + 1 penthouse) and the current state of the building, we conducted a structural load-bearing capacity check after the renovation.

  • The building structure was analyzed comprehensively (3D) using ETABS 2020 structural analysis software, which utilizes the finite element method and is specialized for building structural calculations.

  • Conclusion: The current factory building is structurally sound and safe for expansion to 5 floors + 1 penthouse.
